How to Plant Corn – By this article, I will tell you how to plant corn in an organic way which will then produce an amount that can be harvested in large quantities.
It can be regulated by using proper processing, selection of high-quality seeds, carrying out maintenance on the corn plant itself, and protecting the plant from pests and diseases that can suffer from corn.
Corn (Zea mays ssp. Mays) is one of the essential carbohydrate-producing food plants in the world, besides wheat and rice.
For the population of Central and South America, grains of corn is the staple food, as for some Africans and some regions in Indonesia.
Corn is very popular with most people. The reason is that corn is very easy to cook, only by peeling the skin from the corn we can cook it.
Also, corn is a solution that can be used as a substitute for lifestyle, especially for our society who are required to use or consume sugar with low calories.
At present, corn has also become an essential component of animal feed. Other uses are as a source of food oil and cornstarch base ingredients.
Various corn derivative products are used as raw materials for numerous pharmaceutical, cosmetic and chemical industries.

How to Plant Corn for Beginner
1. Selection of Corn Seeds
As an initial step, to produce high-quality and high-yielding corn should begin by determining the seeds that will be used in growing the corn that will be used later.
Therefore, the corn seeds to be used should be derived from corn seeds that are classified as healthy, not affected by the disease when planted before, and have quality corn. The following is how to plant corn in the selection of seeds.
Instead, always use corn seeds that are still fresh and obtained from high-quality corn as well. Preferably, the level of sprouts needed for planting is around 85%.
Besides, use a type of corn that has previously undergone evolution and has been trusted by the Government, purchasing seeds can be done by buying through seed companies.
Avoid seeds that have sprouts that look ugly, exposed to attacks from parasitic insects and pests such as birds, do not forget not to use seeds that have been previously exposed to the disease.
2. Maize Processing
After determining the seeds which will then be used for cultivation, then the next step that we should need to do is to cultivate the land from the corn we will be planting.
For this reason, preparations that need to be carried out so that the process of planting corn produces quality products are:
In the area of land that will be used for planting corn, the soil should be carried out so that the soil planted with corn seeds becomes looser.
Also, the other purpose of loose soil is to make oxygen circulation to the ground to be used and remove toxins and disease candidates that are in the field.
After the soil is loose, the land that is used should be planted within a period of approximately 5 – 7 days to be exposed to the sun and wind.
If there are weeds around the area of land, cleaning should be done so that the plants are not more that will later interfere with the healing of the corn itself.
The acidity of the soil from the corn itself is low, that is the pH needed is above pH 5. If the area of land to be planted has a high acidity level (below pH 5), then we should make calcification of the property that we will use.
Liming can be done by sprinkling dolomite lime on land that will be used when it has not been used for planting. The dosage needed for calcification should be adjusted to the needs of the area to be used for growing corn.
If the area of planting land that you are going to use before is the land used for rice fields, then we can directly plant corn seeds, besides we also have to make sure that we have prepared an excellent drainage to support the process of planting corn so that the area of land under which the planting is carried out corn is not flooded by water.

3. I am making small mounds of soil.
Mound production on the land will be used to drain the area that is used. For making the mound itself can be done with a width of approximately one meter, and have a height of dam about 20-30 cm with a length adjusted to the amount of land that will be used for planting corn.
After making the mound, make the planting holes with a depth of about 5 cm each, then, arrange the distance between the planting holes with each other.
Preferably, a very suitable range for planting corn seeds is about 50-70 cm in each hole so that the plants that will then grow can grow well.
Because, if the distance between plants is too tight, it will interfere with the growth of corn because it will grab food from each other in the ground.
4. Corn Planting Process
When planting corn for the first time, planting should begin at the beginning of the rainy season itself so that the corn seeds planted have enough watering to do growth.
We can also plant in the dry season, but the thing to note is proper irrigation so that the corn seeds planted can grow optimally.
The method that needs to be done to plant corn itself is by placing several grains (around 1-2) corn seeds in each planting hole that has been prepared previously.
After that, close the planting hole that has been given the seeds and pile using compost that has been made. After that, provide enough water for the corn seeds so that the corn can grow.
5. Harvest Period
After doing the planting process and maintenance process well, when your corn has entered the 65th – 75th days corn has begun to be harvested.
So, that’s how to plant corn in the proper and right ways. Hopefully, it can be useful and can be practiced at your land.
